St. Catherine's Monastery

Located in South Sinai near Mount Moses, it is said to be the oldest monastery in the world. It is one of the most important religious tourist attractions and is frequented by tourists from all over the world. It is managed by the abbot, the bishop of Sinai, and not under the authority of any patriarch. They are not Egyptians, like the bishops of the Greek Orthodox Church in Jerusalem.

The monastery was built on the orders of Empress Helen, the mother of Emperor Constantine, but it was Emperor Justinian who actually built it to house the remains of St. Catherine, who lived in Alexandria.

The monastery contains a historic church with ancient gifts of kings and princes, and a well that is said to be the well of Moses. It was also built around a tree that is said to be the tree of Moses, which caught fire, so Moses went to speak to his Lord,
